PLOT – SPOILER WARNING:
Set in 2044 after solar flares have made the Earth’s surface radioactive, 99.7% of the Earth’s human population has been wiped out. The survivors built robots, the Automata, to help them rebuild in harsh environments. The robots have two unalterable protocols: the first obliges them to preserve human life; the second limits them from fixing themselves. Initially, these robots were popular, but failure to stop desertification saw them shifted in roles to manual labor and domestic care. Jacq works as insurance claim checker for the company that makes the robots, the ROC. One day he investigates a report from a cop, Wallace, who shot a robot claiming it was fixing itself and looked alive. The next day, he follows a robot which was stealing parts, and when Jacq finds it hiding outside the walls, it intentionally sets itself on fire. He takes the burned robot’s brain core. Jacq speculates to his friend and boss Robert that there might be someone, a clockmaster, who somehow succeeded in altering the second protocol, and hopes that if he were able to close the case by finding such a person, he would be able to transfer to a city on the coast, as he fears that the city is too dangerous for his unborn daughter. In Jacq’s dreams, it is hinted that he has memories of the ocean, before it dried up.
Automata5
Jacq shares his plan with Wallace, who brings him to a woman who owns a prostitute robot in the ghetto, which is capable of harming a human for the purposes of pleasure. When Jacq is unable to get the clockmaster’s name from the owner, the cop shoots at the robot (Cleo), saying it will be easier to simply follow the owner to Cleo’s clockmaster. Jacq meets Cleo’s clockmaster, Dr. Dupre, but gets no valuable information, he leaves her his card and the board containing the kernel of the burned robot, promising a nuclear battery he had recently recovered, as a reward for information. The next day, however, the doctor calls Jacq, to inform him that after she had installed into Cleo a hybrid between the ruined kernel and a standard kernel, the robot started to repair itself. Jacq messages Robert about it, but the ROC intercepts the message and sends a team of men and child soldiers. Dupre is killed, but Jacq manages to escape from the doctor’s workshop and gets into a car in which Cleo is trying to drive off. The two drive out of the city but they are being followed by two ROC henchmen. During the chase the henchmen drive into dragon’s teeth while Jacq and Cleo rollover.
Automata7

Jacq wakes up the next morning in the radioactive desert with three unknown robots and Cleo. They don’t obey his command to take him to the city, but the first protocol makes them carry him with them and save him from hunger and dehydration. Jacq manages to secretly send a text message with his rough location to Robert. Knowing of the danger Jacq is in, Robert asks Wallace to recover Jacq in exchange for wiping Wallace’s record clean, as he knew that Wallace was being investigated for the use of drugs while on duty. Robert didn’t know that Wallace intended to extort Jacq for half the value of the nuclear battery, and when Wallace finds Jacq, a physical confrontation ensues. The robots, unable to harm Wallace or permit harming Jacq, freeze in confusion as Wallace threatens Jacq with a gun. Two robots consecutively step in front of the gun to prevent it from killing Jacq, and both are destroyed. When Cleo steps in front of the gun, Jacq fires a flare gun into Wallace’s stomach, killing him and causing his partner to flee with their vehicle. Informed of the failure, the ROC orders another team out to kill Jacq.
Automata4

At a cable car station on the edge of a canyon, Jacq meets the robot which altered all of the others and was the original of its kind. After a philosophical talk with him in which Jacq expresses uncertainty in his memories of the ocean and of his own survival, Jacq surrenders the nuclear battery that the robots need. They use it to build an insect-like robot. The ROC forces Robert to track Jacq with their henchmen. Unable to find him, they kidnap Jacq’s wife and newborn daughter. Robert, disagreeing with the intent to use Jacq’s wife and daughter as hostages, reveals a gun he had taken from Wallace’s corpse, and in the ensuing firefight, he is wounded and left for dead. In the morning, the robots repair a truck for Jacq so he can return to the city. Jacq initially takes the car, but after finding the dying Robert and learning his family is in danger decides to go back. In the meantime the henchmen arrive at the station and kill one of the robots Jacq met in the desert and the original free-thinking robot, additionally they also wound Cleo. Jacq arrives back at the station and crashes the truck into a pile of barrels, killing two henchmen in the process. After getting out of the wreckage Jacq shoots one of the henchmen but soon he is cornered by the last remaining henchman. The insect-like robot jumps on the henchman pushing him off a nearby ledge. The man catches a lower ledge, but he eventually loses his grip and falls to his death. Jacq reunites with his family and Cleo thanks him. Jacq, severely wounded in the gunfight, recalls his memories of the ocean before it dried as his wife drives him to the remaining ocean for his dying wish.

PLOT – SPOILER WARNING:
In the year 2048, after a war, the community has decided to get rid of different races and feelings. All the citizens have had their memories erased; except for the Receiver of Memory. As the Receiver of Memory is the only individual in the community who has the memories from before, he must advise the Chief Elder, and the other Elders, on the decisions for the community. Jonas is to become the next Receiver of Memory, and progressively receive memories, from the past receiver, The Giver. Jonas learns of the Giver’s past and of his child, Rosemary. She preceded Jonas as Receiver of Memory, and was so distraught from the memories that she committed suicide, by what the Community call releasing. They regard its nature as mysterious; the audience learn that it is death by lethal injection. Jonas begins to teach his findings to his friend Fiona, who he decides to share the idea of feelings with. Fiona is unsure of how she feels about feelings, but they kiss while together privately.
thegiver11

Jonas also shares his memories with the baby his father brought home to their house, Gabe, and develops a close relationship with him after discovering he shares the same mark on his wrist Jonas does, the mark of a potential Receiver of Memory. Jonas decides that everyone should have the memories of the past and eventually, the Giver and Jonas decide that the only way they can help the community is to go past the border of what they call Elsewhere, beyond the community, therefore releasing the memories back into the community. Jonas sneaks out at curfew, and decides to get Gabe at the Nurturing Center, who is to be released of weakness. Asher, his other longtime friend besides Fiona, tries to stop him before he leaves the neighborhood, but Jonas quickly punches him. Asher lies on the ground, stunned, and Jonas rides his bike to the Nurturing Center. He tells Fiona his plan and wants to take her with him, but she refuses and instead helps him retrieve Gabe. Before he leaves, she kisses him and helps him escape.

Meanwhile Jonas’s mother and Asher, go to the Chief Elder to tell them Jonas is missing. Guards are sent to contain Jonas, who they say has become “dangerous”, but Jonas gets one of their motorcycles and drives off the cliff near the Giver’s dwelling into “The Elsewhere”. Asher is assigned, by the Chief Elder, to use a drone to find Jonas and “lose” him but when Asher finds Jonas stumbling through the woods, he captures him with the drone. After Jonas implores Asher to think that if he ever cared for Jonas to let him go, Asher drops him into a river, setting him free. Jonas stumbles through the land of Elsewhere, while Fiona has been condemned to be “released” for helping him. Just as she is about to be released by Jonas’s father, the Giver steps in and stalls the Chief Elder with memories of his daughter, Rosemary, trying to call out the Chief Elder, in which she succeeded. Eventually, Jonas finds a sled like one he rode in a memory from the Giver and makes his way beyond the border of Elsewhere, releasing memories and color back into the community and saving Fiona because Jonas’s father realizes what he was really doing. Jonas and Gabe return to the house of his memories, where people are singing Christmas carols, and his voiceover says that back in the community, he swears he hears music too, or maybe just an echo.

PLOT – SPOILER ALERT
The NDR series android “Andrew” (Robin Williams) is introduced in April 2005 into the Martin family home to perform housekeeping and maintenance duties. The family’s reactions range from acceptance and curiosity to outright rejection and deliberate vandalism by the eldest child, Grace (Lindze Letherman), which leads to the discovery that Andrew can both identify emotions and reciprocate in kind. When Andrew accidentally breaks a figurine belonging to Grace’s sister, “Little Miss” Amanda (Hallie Kate Eisenberg), he carves a replacement out of wood. The family is astonished by this creativity and “Sir” Richard Martin (Sam Neill) takes Andrew to his manufacturer, to inquire if all the robots are like him. The company’s CEO (Stephen Root) sees this development as a problem and wishes to scrap Andrew. Angered, Martin takes Andrew home and allows him to pursue his own development, encouraging Andrew to educate himself in the sciences and humanities.Bicentennial ManBicentennial Man

In 2025, Andrew has an accident in which his thumb is accidentally cut off so Sir again takes him to NorthAm Robotics for repairs, ensuring first that Andrew’s personality will remain unharmed. Andrew requests that while he is being repaired his face be upgraded to allow him to convey the emotions he feels but cannot fully express. The CEO bitterly informs them that upgrade modification will be very expensive (larger than the sum he earns in an entire year) but the price is well within the Martin family’s means, comprising a month of Andrew’s income from the sale of his carpentry and other woodworks and crafts. He is upgraded just in time to witness the wedding of Little Miss (Embeth Davidtz).Bicentennial Man

In 2037, Andrew realizes there are no more orders for him to run so he asks for his own freedom much to Sir’s dismay. His elderly owner grants the request but banishes Andrew so he can be “completely” free. As Andrew leaves, Sir comments that he stopped referring to himself as “one”. Andrew eventually builds himself a home at the beach and lives alone. In 2053, Andrew sees Sir one last time. On his deathbed, Sir apologizes for banishing Andrew, knowing that letting him have his freedom was the right thing as he bids farewell to Andrew, stating that it was an honor serving him.Bicentennial Man

After reluctant help from Lloyd Charney (Bradley Whitford), Little Miss’s son, Andrew goes on a quest to locate more NDR series robots to discover if others have also developed sentience. After more than a decade of futility, he finds Galatea (Kiersten Warren), an NDR robot that has been given feminine attributes and personality. These however are simply aspects of her programming and not something which she developed as Andrew did. Galatea is owned by Rupert Burns (Oliver Platt), the son of the original NDR robot designer. Rupert works to create a more human look for robots but is unable to attract funding. Andrew agrees to finance the research and the two join forces to give Andrew a superficial human appearance.Bicentennial ManBicentennial Man

In 2073, Andrew comes back to visit but instead sees Little Miss has aged significantly and meets Portia Charney (Embeth Davidtz), her granddaughter (and Lloyd’s daughter) who looks almost exactly like a younger version of Little Miss due to a genetic likeness. As Andrew gets to know Portia, Little Miss is hospitalized after suffering a stroke. Andrew and Portia visit her, noticing that she is clutching the wooden horse he carved for her when she was young. After Little Miss silently passes away in her hospital bed, Andrew feels the pain of not being able to cry and realizes that every human being he cares for will eventually die.Bicentennial Man

As time passes, Andrew and Rupert begin to study medical designs capable of producing mechanical equivalents of human organs, including a central nervous system, which eventually allows Andrew to acquire tactile sensations and taste. Meanwhile, his friendship with Portia evolves into romance. At first, Portia is uncertain about “investing her emotions in a machine” and almost marries someone else, but Andrew confronts her about her emotions and they eventually engage in a relationship that is both romantic and sexual. When Andrew and Portia realize that their relationship would never be socially accepted, Andrew petitions the World Congress to recognize him as a human being, which would allow him and Portia to be legally married. The Congress Speaker rejects the proposal, however, arguing that while society can tolerate an everlasting machine, an immortal human would create too much jealousy and resentment.Bicentennial ManBicentennial Man

Many years later, Portia is only physically middle-aged due to Andrew’s medical breakthroughs but decides that she doesn’t want to have her life prolonged forever. Realizing that he wouldn’t want to live without her, Andrew asks Rupert to introduce blood into his system which will cause his brain to gradually decay and allow him to age to which his elderly friend welcomes him to the human condition.

Three to four decades later, Andrew has become physically elderly with Portia. With Portia watching, Andrew meets with the World Congress a second time to once again petition to be declared human. Interestingly, the Congress President decides to review the case before making a final determination. After Andrew leaves with Portia to await the decision, the two continue to become more physically older than any other human before.Bicentennial Man

In 2205, Andrew and Portia reside in a nursing home with life support machines and Galatea (now human-looking) nursing them. As all three listen to a broadcast, the Congress President finally acknowledges Andrew’s humanity by declaring that the 200 year old is (“with the exception of Methuselah and other biblical figures”) the oldest human being in recorded history and validates his marriage to Portia. Despite his life support machine, Andrew peacefully dies while listening to the broadcast. Afterwards, Portia too dies quietly hand-in-hand with Andrew, saying her last words to him, “See you soon.”

Snowpiercer

PLOT – SPOILER WARNING:
In 2014, an experiment to counteract global warming causes an ice age that kills nearly all life on Earth. The only survivors are the inhabitants of the Snowpiercer, a massive train, powered by a perpetual-motion engine, that travels on a globe-spanning track. A class system is installed, with the elites inhabiting the front of the train and poor inhabiting the tail.
SnowpiercerIn 2031, the tail inhabitants prepare for the latest in a series of rebellions. Guards arrive periodically to deliver protein blocks for food, and take some of the children. During the guards’ next visit, Curtis leads the tail inhabitants in revolt, forcing their way through several train cars to the prison section. There, they release prisoner Namgoong Minsu, the man who built the doors dividing each car, and his daughter Yona. They offer him Kronol, an addictive drug, as payment for unlocking the remaining doors.

One of the cars is filled with armed men. Under the orders of Minister Mason, the men battle Curtis’ forces; Curtis’ side prevails, and he captures Mason, but he is forced to sacrifice his second-in-command, Edgar, to do so. Mason agrees to lead the group through the high-class cars in exchange for her life. In the school car, the teacher and a henchman draw machine guns, slaughtering many of Curtis’ followers, and executing his mentor Gilliam; Curtis kills Mason for revenge.
SnowpiercerCurtis, his few remaining followers, and Namgoong and Yona continue through the train, discovering the extravagance in which the elites have been living while the poor wallowed in squalor. One of Mason’s henchmen, Franco the Elder, kills the rest of Curtis’ followers before the henchman is himself seemingly killed. Curtis resolves to complete his mission, accompanied by Namgoong and Yona. The trio moves through the remaining cars where the elite indulge in food, partying and Kronol; Namgoong steals much of this Kronol from the inebriated revellers. As they arrive at the Engine door, Namgoong suggests they use the collected Kronol, made from explosive chemical waste, to blow open the side of the train, and escape into the outside; Namgoong explains that every year, the train has passed a crashed plane buried in snow, which has become less buried with each passing year, suggesting that Earth is warming, and that survival outside is now possible.
SnowpiercerCurtis explains why he must confront Wilford, creator of the train and its hierarchy. When the tail dwellers first boarded the train, they were deprived of food, water, or supplies, in crowded conditions, forcing them to turn to cannibalism. Before the introduction of the protein blocks, Curtis had kidnapped an infant Edgar to eat him, and killed his mother, before Gilliam cut his own arm off and offered it in Edgar’s place. Namgoong resolves to use the explosive, but the engine door opens and Namgoong is shot and wounded by Wilford’s assistant Claude, who forces Curtis inside. Wilford explains that the revolution was orchestrated between himself and Gilliam as a means of population control, necessary to maintaining balance aboard the train for supplies, but Curtis was too successful and Wilford’s own losses too great, so he executed Gilliam as punishment. The aging Wilford says that he wants Curtis to replace him as the train’s overseer, while in the tail, Wilford’s henchmen execute all but 18% of inhabitants.
SnowpiercerMeanwhile, Yona and the recovered Namgoong fight off the irate partiers and Mason’s returned henchman. Yona knocks Claude unconscious, gets inside the engine room and pulls up the floor to reveal that Wilford is using the tail children as slave labor, to replace the train’s failing components. Outraged, Curtis sacrifices his arm to block the train gears, freeing one of the children, Timmy. Yona recovers the explosive from Claude and ignites it, before retreating into the engine with Namgoong. The damaged engine door fails to close, and Namgoong and Curtis sacrifice themselves to shield Yona and Timmy from the resulting explosive fire. The explosion sound wave causes an avalanche in the surrounding mountains that strikes and derails the train, destroying many of the cars and possibly killing everyone inside of them. In the aftermath, Yona and Timmy step outside into the snow. In the distance Yona spots a polar bear, revealing that life exists outside the train.

PLOT – SPOILER ALERT
A worldwide zombie outbreak erupts in several metropolitan areas around the world; those bitten by the creatures become zombies themselves. Former UN investigator Gerry Lane, his wife Karin, and their two daughters manage to escape the outbreak in Philadelphia and take shelter with a Hispanic family in Newark, while waiting for special evacuation the next day thanks to Gerry’s friend UN Deputy Secretary-General Thierry Umutoni. Their hosts choose not to accompany them when they flee the next day, and are subsequently killed by zombies. Their son, Tommy, manages to escape, and Gerry’s family takes him in. They are flown to an offshore U.S. Navy carrier group where Umuntoni is overseeing the remaining worldwide governments’ reactions.
worldwarz2

The scientists there believe they must find the first case of the zombie outbreak, believed to be in South Korea. A team is dispatched to go, and Gerry is coerced into going with them under the threat of having his family sent to a potentially unsafe mainland refugee camp. The team lands at Camp Humphreys, where the surviving soldiers hold back zombie attacks: the zombies are fast and vicious, and once bitten, a person turns within seconds. Gerry learns that a Korean doctor was the first to come down with the rabies-like infection, after being bitten by a soldier he was treating whom local villagers had captured when he tried to attack them. A former CIA operative held at the base reveals that Israel had reacted a week before the outbreak, building giant walls around Jerusalem, and suggests that Gerry talk to Mossad agent Jurgen Warmbrunn.
worldwarz7

Gerry is flown to Jerusalem and is brought to Jurgen Warmbrunn. The Mossad agent reveals they had intercepted a message from the Indian army on fighting the rakshasa (“zombies”). He and other Israeli experts convinced the government to build the wall to protect themselves. As Gerry is escorted back to his plane by the IDF, zombies are drawn to the loud music playing in the city and pile themselves against the wall, forming a mound of bodies that allows many to clear the wall. As the city is quickly overtaken by zombies, Gerry and the IDF members battle their way to escape. On their way, Gerry notices that the zombies avoid attacking an old man, and in another instance, a young feeble boy. A zombie bites Gerry’s IDF escort and he quickly amputates her hand, which prevents her from being infected. Eventually, Gerry and the same female IDF member, who only identifies herself as Segen , are able to board the last passenger jet leaving the city.
worldwarz4

Gerry recounts the zombie attacks and remembers seeing sick, injured, and elderly people passed over by the zombie hordes, which leads him to believe this is evidence of some way to deal with the hordes. He contacts Umuntoni to help convince the pilots to take them to Cardiff where an operational WHO facility is located. Nearing approach, a single zombie is discovered on the plane, and most of the passengers are quickly infected and converted. Seeing no other option, Gerry uses a grenade from Segen’s pack to rupture the cabin and blow out the zombies, but this also causes the plane to crash. Gerry and Segen survive, though Gerry is impaled by a piece of shrapnel. They make their way to the WHO facility, where Gerry blacks out.
worldwarz3

Gerry wakes up a few days later, nursed back to health. He contacts Umuntoni to help convince the WHO employees of his identity, but learns that Karin and his family were shipped to the mainland, as they believed he had died in the plane crash. Gerry explains his theory that the zombies ignore the infirm for the healthy, and suggests injecting themselves with a deadly but curable disease to mask themselves from the zombies. The WHO scientists agree but point out the pathogens are located in one of the zombie-infected labs. Gerry, Segen, and another WHO scientist carefully work through the infested labs but are detected. Segen and the WHO scientist get to safety, while Gerry finds himself in the vault with the pathogens, cornered by a lone zombie. Without the ability to identify the strains in storage, many of which could kill him, Gerry injects himself with one of the samples and finds himself still alive. His hypothesis is proven correct as the zombie enters the vault but does not attack, allowing him to walk back to safety with more samples as the rest of the zombies run right past him. Gerry is then treated for the disease.
worldwarz1
In a voice-over, Gerry explains they were able to use these diseases to create a masking agent, allowing them to rescue refugees still trapped by zombies and fight against them. He says that this isn’t the end and our war has just begun, but there is hope as people have used the masking agent to evacuate people or fight back. The final scene shows Gerry and Segen being taken to the mainland refugee camp where Gerry is reunited with his family.

PLOT – SPOILER ALERT
In 2077, Earth has been ravaged from war sixty years prior with an extraterrestrial attacker. The Moon was destroyed, causing earthquakes and tsunamis, while humans allegedly used nuclear weapons for a costly victory. Humanity is now said to be relocating to Saturn’s moon Titan via the “Tet”, a large tetrahedron-shaped space station. On Earth, Tech 49 Jack Harper (Tom Cruise) and his partner and lover Victoria “Vika” Olsen (Andrea Riseborough) are among the few humans left on Earth. Stationed at Tower 49 in former northeastern United States, they are instructed by mission controller Sally (Melissa Leo) to protect the gigantic offshore fusion energy generators that purportedly provide power to the colonists on Titan from Scav attacks (Scavs being a small force of marauding aliens who remained on Earth). The generators are protected by both Drones and Jack’s regular reconnaissance from his ship. Despite having had a memory wipe, Jack experiences visions of being on the observation deck of the Empire State Building before the war with an unknown woman. When not on patrol, Jack secretly spends time at a small lake-side house he has built.
oblivion12
Jack detects a Scav beacon signal emitted from the Empire State Building that is sending coordinates on Earth. Perplexed, he terminates the signal, only to witness a pre-invasion spacecraft, the Odyssey, fall to the earlier specified coordinates. Investigating the wreckage, Jack finds several working stasis chambers, including one containing Julia (Olga Kurylenko), the woman from his visions, as well as a flight recorder. A drone then arrives on the crash site and starts shooting at the stasis chambers, killing the humans inside. Jack revives Julia and is surprised that she knows his name. The Scavs capture them, secure the recorder, and take them to their base at Raven Rock Mountain Complex. The Scavs are not aliens but human survivors, led by Malcolm Beech (Morgan Freeman). Beech wants Jack’s help to destroy the Tet by using unstable fuel cells they have collected and a captured drone. He says everything that Jack knows is a lie, but Jack disbelieves him; Beech releases them, saying the truth can be found in one of the forbidden radiation zones.

En route back to Tower 49, Jack and Julia go to the Empire State Building, where Jack proposed to Julia. They fly to the Tower, but Vika, monitoring their movements, refuses entry and reports to Sally that she and Jack are now an ineffective team. Sally activates a disabled drone that kills Vika, while Jack and Julia escape, chased by other drones Sally sends to capture Julia. Jack’s ship is damaged and crashes in the forbidden zone that lacks the forewarned radioactivity. They encounter Tech 52 Jack, an exact clone of Jack, and during a scuffle Julia is wounded. Seeing Julia, Tech 52 Jack falters and experiences the same visions Tech 49 Jack experienced. After incapacitating Jack 52, Tech 49 Jack races to Tower 52, finding a Vika clone there. He obtains medical supplies to heal Julia and leaves.

After an evening at the lake-house, the two return to the Scavs. Beech reveals that the Tet is the hostile alien force mining the Earth’s resources while eliminating humanity. The Scavs are not extraterrestrials that are still fighting humans, as Jack was told. After the Tet destroyed the Moon, it sent an army of Jack clones to invade Earth, and nukes were launched in the mayhem. He says Jack and Vika clones are primarily tasked with maintaining the drones that monitor and protect the generators from human survivors.

“Sally” sends drones which breach the complex, which Jack helps the others defend. Beech is gravely injured and the captured drone is damaged beyond repair. The humans try to regroup but fear an imminent attack. With Julia’s consent, Jack communicates with the Tet via Sally, agreeing to turn over Julia to her. Placing Julia in a stasis chamber, Jack flies to the Tet while listening to the Odyssey’s flight recorder. It is here learned the fate of the original astronaut Jack Harper: He, Vika and Julia were all crew members aboard the Odyssey, which was originally an exploration mission to Titan, Saturn’s moon. The mission was re-routed to visit the Tet, then near Saturn’s orbit and therefore close to the original trajectory. Originally appearing inactive, the Tet began to pull the spacecraft towards it. To save the crew members in stasis, Jack detaches the sleep module which also serves as an emergency escape pod.

While boarding the Tet, Jack is tailed by 2 drones. After explaining his reasons for arriving at the Tet to “Sally”, he is granted access to the Tet’s main control center. Now deep inside the Tet, Jack opens the sleep chamber. Inside is the mortally-wounded Beech and the fuel cell nuclear bomb. They trigger the bomb, destroying the Tet and shutting down the attacking Drones before they reach the human base. On Earth, Julia awakens from the stasis chamber at the lake-house in time to see the Tet destroyed. Three years later, Julia and her young daughter are living in the lake-house. Members of the human resistance arrive, including Jack Harper 52. The movie ends before more is known about Jack 52 or what his future with Julia will be.
