PREMISE SPOILER WARNING:
In 2048, the uncontrollable evolution of science and technology has caused crime rates to rise an astounding 400%. To combat this, the overwhelmed police force has implemented a new policy: every human police officer is paired with a lifelike combat-model android.

Almost Human

John Kennex (Karl Urban), a troubled detective, has a reason to hate these new robot partners. Almost two years previously, Kennex and his squad were raiding the hideout of a violent gang known as the Insyndicate, but ended up being ambushed and outgunned. Kennex tried to save his badly injured partner, but the accompanying logic-based android officer abandoned them both because the wounded man’s chances of survival were low and it wouldn’t have been “logical” to save him. An explosion then took off Kennex’s leg and killed his partner.

Almost Human

After waking up from a 17-month coma, Kennex has to deal with a cybernetic prosthetic leg and huge gaps in his memory, which he tries to recover through visits to a black market memory-recovery doctor called a Recollectionist, in the city slums. Besides trying to remember as much as he can about the raid and the Insyndicate, he is also coming to terms with being abandoned by his girlfriend Anna.

Almost Human

Kennex is then recalled to the force by Captain Sandra Maldonado (Lili Taylor), and partnered with a standard-issue MX-43 android, which he soon throws from a moving vehicle, when it threatens to report his unusual behavior. He is assigned a replacement android, an older DRN model originally decommissioned for police work and about to be transferred to the Space Station. Created to be as close to human as possible, the DRN androids have trouble dealing with some of their own emotional responses, which was the reason they were replaced by the logic-based MX units. Kennex’s unit, known as Dorian (Michael Ealy), immediately proves himself unique, with a clear dislike of being referred to as a “synthetic”, and a dry, friendly sarcasm-oriented wit. Key to the story arc is the growth and development of Kennex and Dorian’s relationship.

The 100

PREMISE – SPOILER ALERT
The series is set 97 years after a devastating nuclear war wiped out almost all life on Earth. The only known survivors are the residents of twelve space stations in Earth’s orbit prior to the war. The space stations banded together to form a single massive station named “The Ark”, where about 2,400 people live. Resources are scarce and all crimes no matter their nature or severity are punishable by death (“floating”) unless the perpetrator is under 18 years of age. After the Ark’s life support systems are found to be critically failing, one hundred juvenile prisoners are declared “expendable” and sent to the surface in a last ditch attempt to determine if Earth is habitable again. They discover that not all humanity was wiped out. There are people on earth who survived the war, called “grounders” by the 100. The ark consist of the space stations previously representing the nations of the UK, USA, Australia, Canada, China, Japan, India, Russia, Venezuela, France, Brazil, and Uganda.

DefianceDefianceDefianceSETTING – SPOILER ALERT
The series is set in the near future, where aliens, known collectively as Votans, have come to Earth seeking a new home after their star system was destroyed in a stellar collision. When the Votans left their solar system 5,000 years ago, their instruments detected no signs of technology on Earth, so they thought Earth was uninhabited. Upon their arrival in 2013, they discovered otherwise. The humans responded to them with hostility and suspicion.DefianceDefianceDefiance

A limited number of Votans were allowed to settle in a colony in Brazil, and eventually in three other colonies, but millions of Votans remained in hypersleep aboard their ships in orbit around the Earth, as negotiations dragged on with Earth governments to establish a full-scale settlement.DefianceDefianceDefiance

Tensions rose for ten years, but the Votan and human governments were on the verge of negotiating a peaceful settlement, when in 2023 the Votan ambassador to the United Nations was assassinated by a disgruntled human supremacist on live television outside of the United Nations Headquarters in New York City. This sparked a disastrous global conflict between humans and the aliens, known as the Pale Wars.DefianceDefianceDefiance

The wars tore apart the planet for seven years, until their culmination in 2030 in the apocalyptic “Arkfall” event, when the Ark fleet in orbit mysteriously exploded. The aliens think a rogue human commander was responsible, while humans suspect it was an alien weapons experiment gone wrong. Millions of Votans died. During the Arkfall, destroyed Arks rained down on Earth and accidentally released terraformer technology.DefianceDefianceDefiance

While the Votans had intended to use their terraforming technology in a carefully planned manner, the Arkfall haphazardly unleashed chaotic and radical changes to the biosphere and even the geology of Earth, making the planet dangerous to both humans and the aliens. The earth was scorched, chasms opened in the ground, new mountain ranges were raised, and the surface of the planet was covered with dust and debris.Defiance

Animal and plant species from the Votan star system were introduced to Earth, and both native and alien animal species were horribly mutated by the uncontrolled terraforming technology, creating bizarre and dangerous hybrids and new species.DefianceDefianceDefiance

Within a few months, the Pale Wars wound down as both sides had fought to the point of mutual exhaustion, and a ceasefire was declared. Few organized governments remained for either the humans or the aliens, and both sides factionalized as their respective members began looking out for themselves. In several areas, local human and Votan militias began to band together when they realized that they had to cooperate if they hoped to survive on this new, almost alien planet.DefianceDefiance

The debris from the destroyed Ark fleet now forms an artificial “Ark belt” in Earth orbit, which periodically rains down in small-scale “Arkfalls”, which present a hazard for survivors on the surface, but also provide valuable opportunities to salvage advanced technology aboard the Arks. More frequently, most of the debris breaks up on re-entry into shards of metal shrapnel, a dangerous phenomenon known as “razor rain”. Electromagnetic distortion created by the malfunctioning terraformers have rendered most long-distance communication and air transit impossible, isolating far-flung regions much as they would have been isolated in the 19th century. Low-flying aircraft such as helicopters are still safe to fly, and will still function, but high-altitude long-distance flights are too dangerous; neither the humans nor the Votans are capable of launching vehicles into Earth’s orbit any more, as it is not only dangerous, but prohibitively expensive for societies that only just managed to pull themselves back from complete collapse. Fifteen years after the armistice, a new proposed maglev train line is being built with the goal of re-establishing regular transit between the Pacific and Atlantic coasts of North America. Short-range radio stations will still function within the localized area of a town, as will personal smartphone-like devices known as hailers, but otherwise, the disruption of long-range telecommunications means that information must be sent between different regions by courier. At best, an unreliable method known as “text relay” can be used, in which local radio-stations rebroadcast a message received from a neighboring station to reach other regions of the continent, but this can take days or weeks.DefianceDefianceDefiance

In 2046, fifteen years after the armistice, both humans and Votans struggle to rebuild on this shattered world. In the western hemisphere, the Votanis Collective controls much of Central and South America, while the new unified Earth Republic has a major foothold in the populous cities of northeastern North America, now reorganized as a territorial unit known as “Columbia” (a combination of the United States’ Boston-to-Washington megalopolis and Canada’s Quebec City–Windsor Corridor, along with the Canadian Maritime Provinces), with its capital being in New York City. Otherwise, much of North America remains a badlands region, a “New Frontier” slowly being recolonized by several small independent republics and city-states. One such community is the independent city-state of Defiance, located in the heart of the continent, built over the ruins of St. Louis, Missouri.

Alien races:
CastithansDefianceThe Castithans are an aristocratic and ethereal race from the planet Daribo. Known for their pale skin and beautiful features, they’ve a cunning intelligence and unbridled ambition that helped them adapt to life on Earth. Very conservative in many aspects of life, including politics and a rigid caste system, Castithans are very liberal with sexuality. In season 2 it was confirmed that they can reproduce with humans.

IrathientsDefianceIrathients are the most common Votan race living on Earth, hailing from the planet Irath. Other races, including Humans, often view them as feral due to their tribal nature and love of the natural world. Irathients have deep red hair, highly athletic builds and bronze skin covered in naturally occurring contrasting patterns. While they’re quite able to succeed at any occupation, most Irathients prefer to be farmers in order to honor their forefathers. Irathients are able to produce viable offspring with humans.

IndogenesDefianceIndogenes tend to be slender, bald, with hexagonal-patterned skin of a solid color (most often pure white) who augment their bodies with a variety of cybernetic implants specifically designed for their chosen profession. They revere science and knowledge above all, allowing them to have invented most of the technology used by the other alien races.

SensothDefianceThe Sensoth physically resemble apes and giant sloths, being fur covered, and originated in a specific region of Irath. They have many of the Earth’s sloth-like characteristics, speaking and acting quite slowly. They have great physical strength and imposing presence, they can be intimidating to many, despite almost always having kind personalities. This strength of body leads to many of them being hard laborers, more often than not in the employ of a Castithan.

LiberataDefianceThe Liberata are physically short and stocky with thick hair around their head and face. They often fill the role of servants for the other races, performing menial tasks and labor. The other Votan races look down on them due to their past history of greed and avarice. They breathe nitrogen instead of oxygen.

GulaneeDefianceThe Gulanee are the biggest mystery of the Votan races. It is believed they are beings of pure energy, appearing as large balls of light; however this is just an image projected by their “encapsulation suits”, required to sustain Gulanee life. There are very few Gulanee on Terraformed Earth as most Gulanee stayed on their home Gula, confident they’d survive the destruction of the Votanis system. Most other races know very little about the Gulanee, as they have only recently established relationships with the other races.

VolgeDefianceThe Volge are feared by humans and Votans alike for their warmongering attitude. Originating from a different system than the Votans, the Volge conquered the Votan planet Omec. Volge stand over eight feet tall and always wear armor, which sustains them on Earth because they cannot breathe oxygen. During the Votan exodus, the other races chose to leave the Volge behind – their appearance during the Pale Wars was a surprise to all. They are seldom seen since the Armistice, having retreated to underground caves.

HellbugsDefianceThe Hellbugs are a once harmless crustacean race from the Votanis system that were mutated with Butterly DNA during the Terraforming. They are vicious predators who live in large collectives. They’ve a very similar hierarchy to ants or bees, headed by a Matron who commands Warriors, Archers, Skitterlings, and Monarchs. While very dangerous and always posing a threat to sentient life, they are not eradicated as they produce a valuable energy source: Petrohol.

BiomenDefianceWhile technically not alien, the Biomen are often considered such due to their inability to integrate effectively into communities – stigmatized by both humans and Votan. They originated from old Earth during the early Votan Wars, commissioned by a military project to combat potential Alien threats. Biomen are tall and very well muscled, coming in a range of colors and skin tones, but always with a batch number branded across their chest. All Biomen have an off switch somewhere in their bodies. If hit with enough force, they will be rendered unconscious. Several thousand volts of electricity will wake them up. Now effectively useless since the Armistice, they still suffer from the rage built in to their personae and need to be given a focused outlet.

RevolutionRevolutionRevolutionPLOT – SPOILER ALERT
Season 1

The series is set in a post-apocalyptic near-future of the year 2027, where – fifteen years ago in the year 2012 – all of the electricity on Earth was permanently disabled, ranging from computers and electronics to car and jet engines. Trains and cars stopped where they were, ships went dead in the water, and fly-by-wire aircraft fell from the sky and crashed. This event came to be known by everybody in this new world as “The Blackout”. Over the next fifteen years, people have soon adapted to a world without electricity and due to the collapse of government and public order, several areas were ruled by militias and their generals.RevolutionRevolutionRevolution

It begins with the surviving Matheson family: Ben Matheson and his two children: daughter Charlie and son Danny, who now live in a village near Chicago. He wears a small pendant around his neck (later revealed to be a disguised USB flash drive) that is the key to not only finding out what happened fifteen years ago, but also a possible way to reverse its effects. However, Sebastian Monroe, the General of the Monroe Militia and self-appointed President of the Monroe Republic, whose borders are the Mississippi River and the old states of Kentucky and the Carolinas, is searching for the pendants, so he can use their power to take control of the entire North American continent. The remaining Matheson family, joined initially by Miles Matheson, Aaron Pittman, and Nora Clayton now are on the run from the Monroe Militia. Monroe’s new benefactor, Randall Flynn, a former U.S. Assistant Secretary of Defense who 15 years earlier ordered the deployment of the weaponized technology that caused the blackout, now works with Monroe in his efforts after Ben’s wife Rachel (working under duress for Monroe) escapes from his custody. This technology is later revealed to be a form of nanotechnology whose ability to drain electricity can be countered by the pendant.RevolutionRevolutionRevolution

Opening Introduction:
We lived in an electric world. We relied on it for everything. And then the power went out. Everything stopped working. We weren’t prepared. Fear and confusion led to panic. The lucky ones made it out of the cities. The government collapsed. Militias took over, controlling the food supply and stockpiling weapons. We still don’t know why the power went out. But we’re hopeful someone will come and light the way.RevolutionRevolutionRevolution

In Season 1 Episode 5, “Soul Train”, a map of the former continental United States, Canada, and Mexico is shown[8] and shows the former North American Union divided into six “Republics” (parts of Canada and Mexico became part of the contiguous United States): the Monroe Republic, the Georgia Federation, the Plains Nation, Texas, the California Commonwealth, and the Wasteland. In the same episode, it indicates that the Georgia Federation and Plains Nation have allied against the Monroe Republic and border skirmishing in southwest Illinois, near St. Louis, is mentioned. According to the wife of Captain Thomas Neville (Julia) in a letter to her husband, the Monroe Republic capital of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania is relatively safe; however, life outside west of Pittsburgh is subject to rebel attacks and other dangers such as bandits.RevolutionRevolutionRevolution

Season 2
In April 2013, the series was renewed for a second season of 22 episodes. The new season aired on Wednesdays at 8:00 pm (ET) as opposed to the previous time slot of Monday at 10:00 pm (ET). The season premiered on September 25, 2013, took a mid-season break before Thanksgiving 2013, and returned with new episodes on January 8, 2014.RevolutionRevolutionRevolution

Nicole Ari Parker was cast in a recurring role as Secretary Justine Allenford. Patrick Heusinger and Jessie Collins were also signed. World War Z is a 2013 American disaster zombie film directed by Marc Forster. The screenplay by Matthew Michael Carnahan, Drew Goddard, and Damon Lindelof is from a screen story by Carnahan and J. Michael Straczynski, based on the 2006 novel of the same name by Max Brooks. The film stars Brad Pitt as Gerry Lane, a former United Nations investigator who must travel the world to find a way to stop a zombie pandemic.

Pitt’s Plan B Entertainment secured the film rights in 2007, and Forster was approached to direct. In 2009, Carnahan was hired to rewrite the script. Filming began in July 2011 in Malta, on an estimated $125 million budget, before moving to Glasgow in August 2011 and Budapest in October 2011. Originally set for a December 2012 release, the production suffered some setbacks. In June 2012, the film’s release date was pushed back, and the crew returned to Budapest for seven weeks of additional shooting. Damon Lindelof was hired to rewrite the third act, but did not have time to finish the script, and Drew Goddard was hired to rewrite it. The reshoots took place between September and October 2012.

PLOT – SPOILER ALERT
A worldwide zombie outbreak erupts in several metropolitan areas around the world; those bitten by the creatures become zombies themselves. Former UN investigator Gerry Lane, his wife Karin, and their two daughters manage to escape the outbreak in Philadelphia and take shelter with a Hispanic family in Newark, while waiting for special evacuation the next day thanks to Gerry’s friend UN Deputy Secretary-General Thierry Umutoni. Their hosts choose not to accompany them when they flee the next day, and are subsequently killed by zombies. Their son, Tommy, manages to escape, and Gerry’s family takes him in. They are flown to an offshore U.S. Navy carrier group where Umuntoni is overseeing the remaining worldwide governments’ reactions.
worldwarz2

The scientists there believe they must find the first case of the zombie outbreak, believed to be in South Korea. A team is dispatched to go, and Gerry is coerced into going with them under the threat of having his family sent to a potentially unsafe mainland refugee camp. The team lands at Camp Humphreys, where the surviving soldiers hold back zombie attacks: the zombies are fast and vicious, and once bitten, a person turns within seconds. Gerry learns that a Korean doctor was the first to come down with the rabies-like infection, after being bitten by a soldier he was treating whom local villagers had captured when he tried to attack them. A former CIA operative held at the base reveals that Israel had reacted a week before the outbreak, building giant walls around Jerusalem, and suggests that Gerry talk to Mossad agent Jurgen Warmbrunn.
worldwarz7

Gerry is flown to Jerusalem and is brought to Jurgen Warmbrunn. The Mossad agent reveals they had intercepted a message from the Indian army on fighting the rakshasa (“zombies”). He and other Israeli experts convinced the government to build the wall to protect themselves. As Gerry is escorted back to his plane by the IDF, zombies are drawn to the loud music playing in the city and pile themselves against the wall, forming a mound of bodies that allows many to clear the wall. As the city is quickly overtaken by zombies, Gerry and the IDF members battle their way to escape. On their way, Gerry notices that the zombies avoid attacking an old man, and in another instance, a young feeble boy. A zombie bites Gerry’s IDF escort and he quickly amputates her hand, which prevents her from being infected. Eventually, Gerry and the same female IDF member, who only identifies herself as Segen , are able to board the last passenger jet leaving the city.
worldwarz4

Gerry recounts the zombie attacks and remembers seeing sick, injured, and elderly people passed over by the zombie hordes, which leads him to believe this is evidence of some way to deal with the hordes. He contacts Umuntoni to help convince the pilots to take them to Cardiff where an operational WHO facility is located. Nearing approach, a single zombie is discovered on the plane, and most of the passengers are quickly infected and converted. Seeing no other option, Gerry uses a grenade from Segen’s pack to rupture the cabin and blow out the zombies, but this also causes the plane to crash. Gerry and Segen survive, though Gerry is impaled by a piece of shrapnel. They make their way to the WHO facility, where Gerry blacks out.
worldwarz3

Gerry wakes up a few days later, nursed back to health. He contacts Umuntoni to help convince the WHO employees of his identity, but learns that Karin and his family were shipped to the mainland, as they believed he had died in the plane crash. Gerry explains his theory that the zombies ignore the infirm for the healthy, and suggests injecting themselves with a deadly but curable disease to mask themselves from the zombies. The WHO scientists agree but point out the pathogens are located in one of the zombie-infected labs. Gerry, Segen, and another WHO scientist carefully work through the infested labs but are detected. Segen and the WHO scientist get to safety, while Gerry finds himself in the vault with the pathogens, cornered by a lone zombie. Without the ability to identify the strains in storage, many of which could kill him, Gerry injects himself with one of the samples and finds himself still alive. His hypothesis is proven correct as the zombie enters the vault but does not attack, allowing him to walk back to safety with more samples as the rest of the zombies run right past him. Gerry is then treated for the disease.
worldwarz1
In a voice-over, Gerry explains they were able to use these diseases to create a masking agent, allowing them to rescue refugees still trapped by zombies and fight against them. He says that this isn’t the end and our war has just begun, but there is hope as people have used the masking agent to evacuate people or fight back. The final scene shows Gerry and Segen being taken to the mainland refugee camp where Gerry is reunited with his family.

PLOT – SPOILER ALERT
In 2077, Earth has been ravaged from war sixty years prior with an extraterrestrial attacker. The Moon was destroyed, causing earthquakes and tsunamis, while humans allegedly used nuclear weapons for a costly victory. Humanity is now said to be relocating to Saturn’s moon Titan via the “Tet”, a large tetrahedron-shaped space station. On Earth, Tech 49 Jack Harper (Tom Cruise) and his partner and lover Victoria “Vika” Olsen (Andrea Riseborough) are among the few humans left on Earth. Stationed at Tower 49 in former northeastern United States, they are instructed by mission controller Sally (Melissa Leo) to protect the gigantic offshore fusion energy generators that purportedly provide power to the colonists on Titan from Scav attacks (Scavs being a small force of marauding aliens who remained on Earth). The generators are protected by both Drones and Jack’s regular reconnaissance from his ship. Despite having had a memory wipe, Jack experiences visions of being on the observation deck of the Empire State Building before the war with an unknown woman. When not on patrol, Jack secretly spends time at a small lake-side house he has built.
oblivion12
Jack detects a Scav beacon signal emitted from the Empire State Building that is sending coordinates on Earth. Perplexed, he terminates the signal, only to witness a pre-invasion spacecraft, the Odyssey, fall to the earlier specified coordinates. Investigating the wreckage, Jack finds several working stasis chambers, including one containing Julia (Olga Kurylenko), the woman from his visions, as well as a flight recorder. A drone then arrives on the crash site and starts shooting at the stasis chambers, killing the humans inside. Jack revives Julia and is surprised that she knows his name. The Scavs capture them, secure the recorder, and take them to their base at Raven Rock Mountain Complex. The Scavs are not aliens but human survivors, led by Malcolm Beech (Morgan Freeman). Beech wants Jack’s help to destroy the Tet by using unstable fuel cells they have collected and a captured drone. He says everything that Jack knows is a lie, but Jack disbelieves him; Beech releases them, saying the truth can be found in one of the forbidden radiation zones.
oblivion5
En route back to Tower 49, Jack and Julia go to the Empire State Building, where Jack proposed to Julia. They fly to the Tower, but Vika, monitoring their movements, refuses entry and reports to Sally that she and Jack are now an ineffective team. Sally activates a disabled drone that kills Vika, while Jack and Julia escape, chased by other drones Sally sends to capture Julia. Jack’s ship is damaged and crashes in the forbidden zone that lacks the forewarned radioactivity. They encounter Tech 52 Jack, an exact clone of Jack, and during a scuffle Julia is wounded. Seeing Julia, Tech 52 Jack falters and experiences the same visions Tech 49 Jack experienced. After incapacitating Jack 52, Tech 49 Jack races to Tower 52, finding a Vika clone there. He obtains medical supplies to heal Julia and leaves.
oblivion7
After an evening at the lake-house, the two return to the Scavs. Beech reveals that the Tet is the hostile alien force mining the Earth’s resources while eliminating humanity. The Scavs are not extraterrestrials that are still fighting humans, as Jack was told. After the Tet destroyed the Moon, it sent an army of Jack clones to invade Earth, and nukes were launched in the mayhem. He says Jack and Vika clones are primarily tasked with maintaining the drones that monitor and protect the generators from human survivors.
oblivion13
“Sally” sends drones which breach the complex, which Jack helps the others defend. Beech is gravely injured and the captured drone is damaged beyond repair. The humans try to regroup but fear an imminent attack. With Julia’s consent, Jack communicates with the Tet via Sally, agreeing to turn over Julia to her. Placing Julia in a stasis chamber, Jack flies to the Tet while listening to the Odyssey’s flight recorder. It is here learned the fate of the original astronaut Jack Harper: He, Vika and Julia were all crew members aboard the Odyssey, which was originally an exploration mission to Titan, Saturn’s moon. The mission was re-routed to visit the Tet, then near Saturn’s orbit and therefore close to the original trajectory. Originally appearing inactive, the Tet began to pull the spacecraft towards it. To save the crew members in stasis, Jack detaches the sleep module which also serves as an emergency escape pod.
oblivion8
While boarding the Tet, Jack is tailed by 2 drones. After explaining his reasons for arriving at the Tet to “Sally”, he is granted access to the Tet’s main control center. Now deep inside the Tet, Jack opens the sleep chamber. Inside is the mortally-wounded Beech and the fuel cell nuclear bomb. They trigger the bomb, destroying the Tet and shutting down the attacking Drones before they reach the human base. On Earth, Julia awakens from the stasis chamber at the lake-house in time to see the Tet destroyed. Three years later, Julia and her young daughter are living in the lake-house. Members of the human resistance arrive, including Jack Harper 52. The movie ends before more is known about Jack 52 or what his future with Julia will be.
